Workspaces

The workshop spaces at Mältinranta Art Centre are rented to artists for work. Some of the spaces can also be rented for corporate or private events.

Tampere Artists’ Association also manages three studio buildings, which are intended for longer-term work by members of the association. Takahuhti Art Centre and the Hälläpyöränkatu studio building also have apartments for visual artists.

Takahuhti Art Centre (Kirjavaisenkatu 17, Tampere) has a residence, which is intended for use by visual artists. The Art Centre also has a project space.

Mältinranta Art Centre workspaces


At Art Centre Mältinranta, there are 600 square meters of studio space available for the use of visual artists. Spaces are rented to members of Tampere Artists’ Association as well as:

  • Professional visual artists
  • Skilled amateurs capable of independent work
  • Supervised course activities

To work in the studios, the user must always have good command of the technique being used, the ability to work independently, and the ability to interact respectfully with other users.

Those renting for a longer continuous period receive a key, allowing them to work at any time. Those renting for a shorter period may work Tuesday to Thursday from 10:00 to 17:00 and Friday from 9:00 to 16:00.

Booking Usage Time

  • Make a reservation well in advance and prepare for about a two-week processing time. It is not possible to start working with just a few days’ notice if you are a new user.
  • If you wish to work in June–July, you should contact us already in spring due to staff holidays. No completely new users are admitted during holiday months.
  • To reserve a time slot for using the workshop, you must fill out an electronic form (a link can be found further down the page).
  • The workshop booking calendar shows when the space may be available. However, it is recommended to contact us directly, as the calendar may not always be fully up to date.

  • Booking usage time is binding.
  • If the user receives a key, it must be picked up from Aila Mäkinen, aila.makinen(at)tampereen-taiteilijaseura.fi or phone +358 50 550 3439. Key pick-up is mainly available Tue–Fri from 11:00 to 16:00. When picking up the key, instructions regarding alarms and motion detectors will be reviewed.
  • Note: a €20 deposit is charged for the key. If the key is lost, the user must pay €150 for replacement and rekeying.
  • Remember to return the key immediately after your usage period ends. Arrange the return with Aila Mäkinen.
  • Usage fees starting from January 1, 2025, are listed in the tables below. All fees are VAT-exempt. If you wish to pay for longer working periods in instalments, an invoicing surcharge will be added to the total amount.

Graphic arts spaces / metal workshop


Printmaking techniques: water-based and solvent-based screen printing, woodcut, lithography, and metal engraving (solvent-based).

Rules and regulations for the printmaking workshop

More detailed user guidelines for screen printing, metal engraving, and lithography will be provided upon arrival and are also available on the walls of the studios. Information about the responsibilities of the supervising artists and the contents of the orientation are also posted.

Metal Workshop

The metal workshop is equipped with a MIG welding machine, vices, welding and metalworking tables, a metal band saw, and a pillar drill. Gas usage is charged according to actual consumption.

Ceramic kiln

Monument and project studio
– Suitable for the realization of large-scale works. You can even drive inside by car.
– Area 69 m2, height 8 m.
– Bridge crane (max. 2000 kg).
– Can be darkened.
– The entire space is rented to one artist or entity at a time for various projects.
