Membership

A professional visual artist who is actively working in the Pirkanmaa region may be accepted as a member Tampere Artists’ Association (TAA), provided that they have professional education in the visual arts, or membership in a professional artists’ union, or have otherwise demonstrated professional merit in the field of visual arts.
In defining professional artist status, attention is paid to education, active artistic practice, and the applicant’s CV. The Board of the Association approves new members by a simple majority vote.

New membership applications are processed once a year. The annual deadline for applications is March 25.

Please apply for membership by sending all the information listed below in ONE pdf-file electronically to: senni.uusikartano (at) tampereen-taiteilijaseura.fi with the title “Application for Membership”.

The PDF file must include the following documents and images:

  • MEMBERSHIP APPLICATION FORM /JÄSENHAKEMUS (complete the form and attach it to your application. See the translation of the form below. )
  • CV
  • PORTFOLIO of 5–10 pictures of artworks or work series.
    • The works must be from the last five years.
    • At least one image must be an exhibition/installation view.
    • Each image must include full artwork details: title, year, medium/technique, and dimensions.
    • You may also include links to works if necessary.

If you attach a copy of your degree certificate, please cover any personal identification information other than your name before sending. If you graduated from a foreign art institution, include documentation confirming that your education is equivalent to a comparable Finnish degree.

NOTE! The maximum size of the PDF file is 15 MB.
Please check carefully that your PDF includes all required documents and images. Applications missing any required material will not be processed.

Section 6. Professional education in visual arts
  • If you are a full member of a professional artists’ union (TML, STG, KVL, MUU ry, V), you do not need to attach an education certificate.
  • If you do not have membership in a professional artists’ union, attach a copy of your degree certificate (cover any personal information other than your name).
  • If your degree was completed abroad, attach:
    • An assessment of the equivalence of your education in Finland,
    • A link to the educational institution’s website,
    • A description of course contents.

INSTRUCTIONS FOR PREPARING THE CV

The CV is a more detailed description of your professional activity. It should include:

  • Name and contact details
  • Website address (up to date) and relevant professional social media links
  • Education
  • Solo exhibitions
  • Group exhibitions
  • Performances and public appearances
  • Commissions
  • Collections
  • Grants, residencies, awards
  • Publications
  • Gallery representation and possible memberships

Additional notes:

  • List only education related to the profession of a visual artist.
  • Include only exhibitions held in galleries or comparable professional visual art venues (not cafés or similar spaces).
  • Sales exhibitions (such as art fairs, open studio events, etc.) are not considered exhibitions and should not be listed in the CV.
  • If you have many exhibitions, list only the most important ones. You may title the shortened list, for example: Solo Exhibitions (selected).
  • List exhibitions in reverse chronological order: the most recent first.
